New Job!
I’ve spent forEVER working for this, and FINALLY things are starting to fall into place! The past 4 years have consisted of working by butt off for little or no pay, so I feel like this is LONG overdue… I start THURSDAY teaching 10th grade World Lit at a charter school just a little south of Atlanta. I’m actually freaking out a little because I have absolutely no time to prepare...

jerryburns21days: 11:50am. Today’s subject, Tim Redman arrives and we go get coffee and catch up. Tim was one of my best students ever at Portfolio Center. He was one of the few who embraced the old school techniques including the view camera. I predict a brilliant career for him. Here we are having some fun. I tagged along with Tim & Jerry this morning for breakfast at Parish and to...

teaching high school theatre kids
Now in my fourth week of teaching high school theatre… :) When I first got this long-term position, I was sorta like, bleh, I suck at acting, but it’s a job… But now it is so much fun! And.. WAY easier than teaching Lit classes. It turns out you don’t really need to be a phenomenal actor to teach HS Theatre.. you just have to have to be able to critique it, direct...

the perfect guy →
I am not usually all mushy, but I do not say enough how much I love and appreciate my boyfriend. Between the anxieties of finishing grad school, looking for work, and being diagnosed with a chronic illness, I have not always been an easy person to love the past 3 years. Timothy has stuck by me through all of it. He is intelligent, interesting, patient, and loving, and is committed to making...

Thoughts on Christmas
When you’re a kid, Christmas is all about one day. The month of December creeps along slowly, and you count each day with a cheap chocolate advent calendar or a paper chain with 25 red and green links. You hate the wait, and then, on Christmas Eve, your spirit tries to leap out of your skin from excitement. You lay awake thinking of all the neat things that Santa might bring. And if you...

On Teaching
I just finished my first PaiD week of full-time teaching in a public school! This job just sort of fell from the sky for me and it could not have been a more perfect fit! I’m teaching 12th grade British Literature at the high school I graduated from in 2004. (I used to babysit one of my students when he was like 5 years old… he’s 18 now. WEIRD!)  I seriously cannot say enough how amazing...
